Project EOData: A New Project Emerging

2022. 02. 10. | Bálint György Zsíros

How it all came to be

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Project EOData, a new initiative dedicated to creating the world's most extensive and precise database of Explosive Ordnances (EOs), fuzes, and their combinations. This ambitious project follows the successful introduction of our VR training software prototype, which demonstrated the immense potential of integrating advanced technology with EOD training. Recognizing the need for a specialized, detailed, and comprehensive resource, we have separated the development of the database into its own project. Project EOData aims to collect and digitize every possible ordnance, fuse, and their combinations, providing invaluable information to EOD experts around the globe.

The Challenge of Building EOData

Compiling thousands of fuzes and tens of thousands of explosive ordnances is no small feat. One of the primary challenges lies in the fact that much of this information is not yet digitized. Historical records, including books, journals, and even handwritten booklets created by EOD specialists during the World Wars, are crucial sources of data. These documents, often more than 80 years old, require meticulous preservation and digitization to ensure their valuable information is not lost to time.

The process involves sifting through countless historical documents, extracting relevant data, and converting it into a digital format. This painstaking task is essential for creating a centralized repository that can be easily accessed and utilized by EOD professionals worldwide. Our team is dedicated to preserving the historical significance of these documents while making their content readily available for modern use.

High-Detail 3D Models

One of the standout features of Project EOData is the inclusion of highly detailed 3D models of explosive ordnances. However we are limited by Project Shadow, which has to be optimized for performance on mobile platforms, these models are crafted to capture every intricate detail of the ordnances. They are essential for providing an in-depth understanding of the structure and components of various ordnances from an EOD perspective.

The 3D models in EOData feature accurate textures, aiming to replicate reality as closely as possible, including every small feature like spanner holes, grooves, timer scales and even screws. Unlike 3D printing and engineering models, where textures are unnecessary because printed plastic models are hand-painted, Project EOData and Shadow prioritize accurate 3D models for both screen view and VR appearance. This approach ensures that learning about ordnance is enhanced by a realistic visual experience.

A Resource for EOD Professionals

The primary goal of Project EOData is to create the world's most comprehensive and accurate database of explosive ordnances and fuzes. This resource will be invaluable for EOD professionals, providing them with detailed information on a wide range of ordnances and their components.

By making this wealth of information readily accessible, Project EOData aims to enhance the capabilities of EOD experts in the field. Whether they are dealing with modern threats or uncovering historical unexploded ordnances, EOD professionals will have a reliable and extensive resource at their fingertips. This will enable them to make informed decisions, improve their safety protocols, and ultimately save lives.

The Synergy Between Project Shadow and EOData

As Project EOData and Shadow are two sides of the same coin, there is a significant synergy between the two. The detailed information and high-resolution 3D models from EOData is used to create and enhance the training scenarios in our VR software. By integrating these comprehensive resources, we can create more realistic and informative training experiences for EOD professionals.

A new age of EOD Training and Research

In conclusion, Project EOData represents a significant leap forward in the field of Explosive Ordnance Disposal. By creating the world's most comprehensive and detailed database of ordnances and fuzes, we are providing EOD professionals with an invaluable resource that can enhance their capabilities and improve their safety. The inclusion of high-resolution 3D models sets EOData apart, offering a level of detail and accuracy that is unmatched.

The synergy between Project EOData and Shadow underscores our commitment to advancing EOD training and research. By leveraging the strengths of both projects, we are pioneering a future where EOD professionals are better equipped, better informed, and better prepared to handle the challenges they face. We are excited about the possibilities that Project EOData brings and look forward to continuing our mission of innovation and excellence in EOD training and research.

We hope to start a new age of EOD.
